Il/legible Type

Our eyes have been trained to recognise letterforms as positive forms. Does legibility remain when letterforms are created within negative space?

Il/legible Type explores this relationship of form through a calligraphic type system — base letterform strokes are constant, in combination with custom expressive strokes. The unpredictability and imperfections of silkscreen printing and embossing simulate the variation of form in hand-written calligraphic script. Three weights; light, medium and bold were developed to challenge the viewer’s tolerance of space in deciphering the form.
